Alleged Serial Gun-Wielding Robber Arrested by Stoneham Police

Police believe that 19-year-old Taylor A. Goulding is connected to seven recent armed robberies in Stoneham, Woburn, Winchester, Melrose and Reading.

Stoneham Police have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with seven recent armed robberies in the area, the department announced in a press release on Thursday morning.

Taylor A. Goulding of Stoneham is charged with two counts of armed robbery while being masked and one count of attempted armed robbery while being masked for the three robberies that occurred in Stoneham on Oct. 30 at DB Mart, Nov. 1 at Sunset Tanning and Nov. 11 at C-Store.

In each of those robberies, the suspect was described as a white male, wearing a black ski mask, black sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, black and white sneakers, and brandishing a black handgun, according to Stoneham Police.

That description matched the description of the person who robbed the DB Mart in Woburn on Nov. 2; the Dairy Barn in Winchester on Nov. 5; the Richdale store in Melrose on Nov. 7; and the Gulf gas station in Reading on Nov. 15.

On Wednesday with assistance from Wakefield, Woburn and Reading detectives, Stoneham Police detectives stopped Goulding's Toyota Corolla on Maple Street in Stoneham, according to Stoneham Police. While speaking with detectives, Goulding agreed to come to the Stoneham Police station for an interview, police said, while his car was towed from the scene for motor vehicle violations.

During a search of the car, a black replica-style handgun and similar clothing used in the robberies were discovered, Stoneham Police said.

Leading up to Goulding's arrest, during the investigation of the seven robberies detectives developed a description of a vehicle which may have been involved.

On Nov. 17, a Woburn Police officer saw a car registered to Goulding that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, Stoneham Police said, and saw clothing inside the then-unoccupied car that appeared similar to those worn by the suspect in the robberies.

"Stoneham Police detectives, working in conjunction with detectives from the Wakefield Police, Woburn Police, Reading Police, Melrose Police and FBI Robbery Task force began to focus their investigation onto Mr. Goulding," the Stoneham Police press release said. "Significant resources from these cooperating agencies were brought together during the subsequent two week investigation and surveillance of Mr. Goulding."

Goulding was held overnight on $20,000 bail will be arraigned Thursday in Woburn District Court.

YOU KNOW WHATS SAD... this BOY is 19, yes he knew his actions but he wasnt in the right mind. I know because i was the little sister of my big brother the hockey star never had been arrested before. When things get bad these kids have no where to turn...somtimes they feel there parents will kick them out and then not are they only homeless they also have a SERIOUS drug habbit. So yes good police work. But this wouldnt be happining as much if they had better help in the state. They kick you out within 4-6 days and then on to the next persons insurance even though your still sick and unstable when they release you. I feel horrible my heart goes out to the family of the stores and the family of this 19 YEAR OLD BOY! so no what hes going to be institutionalized in upstae prison with murders. OK GREAT WAY TO WORK WITH THIS PROBLEM. WE NEED TO FIND SOME SOLUTIONS IN STED OF WORRING ABOUT THE DUMB THINGS GOING ON IN THIS STATE WE HAVE THE HIGEST RATE OF OVER DOESES THROUHOUT AMERICA. SOMEONE NEEDS TO STEP IN AND HELP THESE KIDS. imagine it was your son?

Kathleen you"re right in there not being enough help. We have a serious epidemic going on w/drugs and nobody wants to address a better game plan for treating it. Truth though if he really truly wants help he can get it in prison and for a longer time frame than insurance allows "out on the street". My son was once this young boy minus the gun. He robbed homes instead of stores and all to feed his drug habit. He was given far too many chances by the judicial system(another area that needs to be changed) and finally incarcerated for 2 1/2 years. It was in jail that he got the help he needed and wanted...KEYWORD: want, the addict has to want to change their life and address the disease of addiction. Believe me most want help but as you say 4-5 days is nothing but a spin cycle. I lost count of how many times my son was in one of these detox and rehab facilities. My son took advantage of all that was offered him and I am happy to say he is now clean , almost 3 years, He is in a program and attends meetings and it will be a daily struggle, some better than others. He has a beautiful child and a full time job and is the first to tell you jail was the best thing for him and wished the courts had done it sooner. Sad that it has to come that far but I thank God every day for jail and that I stuck by him when he went there. Parents and politicians really need to educate themselves about this epidemic that is taking over our young ones and do something to change the laws.

Thank you to the policemen who caught him. Whatever this man's problem he can't go around terrorizing our towns. I'm sorry his life has taken a downturn but we shouldn't suffer for it.

I am glad that this boy was apprehended before someone got seriously hurt or killed. Job well done to the Police Departments involved.I am happy that this is over but sad that such a young life has been destroyed by crime.

Sick of this city,
You nailed it. Drugs ARE an epidemic in our suburbs. All the press in tony magazines touting our towns and schools mask a huge problem around here. I am relieved for all the business owners that this kid was caught before his behavior escalated even more. I also applaud the diligence of the officers in apprehending this kid. My hope is that these same police officers apply this same diligence to arresting ALL the dealers out there. I truly believe many departments tend to turn a blind eye to the low level dealers in the hopes that they will catch the big fish. Take ALL of them out of business until it no longer becomes expedient for them to be in business. All of us are tired of drugs taking over our towns. I wish your son continued success in his sobriety,.Godspeed.

Thanks to the police for stopping this menace. All these well wishers for the robber but how about those he robbed by sticking a gun in their faces? They are the victims not the kid who robbed them. Give us a break.

It could have been a lot worse. He had a fake gun what if one of these store owners had a real gun and shot him. Or if he had run into a police officer on his way out think of what those people would be going though now. Yes this guy needs help but think back to election day when people voted to make Pot legal for medical use. This is only going to make things worst for this type of kid.
