The Wakefield Commission on Disabilities Issues (CDI) has been involved in the planning and logistics for the Fourth of July parade. Due to side streets being closed along the parade route, several permanent handicapped spaces will not be available.
Arrangements have been made to have temporary handicapped spaces available between the Public Safety Building and CVS (six spaces),and the bank parking lot on Main St ,next to Jeffrey’s Liquor (six spaces).
Since the side streets will be closed off, starting around 3:30 to 4 p.m., you should arrive earlier if you want to use the permanent spaces on those streets.
There will be no seats available at the reviewing stand, as those are by invitation only. There will also be two handicapped portable potty units available on Spaulding Street, near the playground, next to the common.
Church Street will be blocked off between Main Street and Common Street. Arrangements have been made to have four additional temporary spaces, next to the permanent one on the corner of Lake Ave and Church Street. (Three additional spaces will always be available whenever an event at the lake results in Church Street being blocked off.)
The CDI would like to thank the Wakefield Independence Day Committee, the West Side Social Club, the DPW, Police and Fire Dept., Board of Health and Town Administrator for working with the CDI to provide the spaces.
We hope you attend and enjoy the day and night festivities. Several people have spent several hours to provide you with a fun and memorable Fourth of July.
