The Stoneham/Board of Health Food Pantry is encouraging everyone in the community to collect monetary donations and much needed protein food items to stock the pantry shelves during these tough winter months through the Souper Bowl of Caring campaign.
The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national effort to mobilize communities, especially the youth, to fight hunger in their cities and towns. The vision is to transform Super Bowl weekend – the first Sunday in February – into a huge endeavor to collect and donate money and food items to local food pantries during the week leading up to the big game. Local participants can share in the national effort by registering their groups at www.souperbowl.org.
If you are going to celebrate the Super Bowl with family and friends on February 5, 2012, why not ask your guests to bring a few cans of food or make a monetary donation to benefit the Stoneham Food Pantry? Just collect food donations and then drop them off the following week at the pantry which is located at the First Congregational Church in Stoneham, 1 Church Street (next to the Common). If donating items, please call the Church office (781-438-0097) to alert the staff that the food or goods will be coming. If you are able to collect financial contributions, please have checks made out to the First Congregational Church in Stoneham with a reference to the food pantry and mail (or drop off in the office) to the First Congregational Church in Stoneham, 1 Church Street, Stoneham, MA 02180.
The local business community is also encouraged to get involved. Ideas include asking employees and customers to bring food or financial contributions to the business the week before Super Bowl or to have special rewards for those who do bring in donations to support the Souper Bowl of Caring.
The Youth Group of the First Congregational Church in Stoneham will also be hosting a Souper Bowl lunch after Church service on Sunday, February 5, 2012. Bring in a home-made soup or come and enjoy a variety of delicious soups for a $5 donation. All monetary donations will go to the Church’s Hungry Helpers group which is one of the contributors to weekly Community Dinners hosted by First Church. If you plan on contributing a soup or enjoying the lunch, please RSVP to the Church office (781-438-0097).
