DEMOCRATS TO HOLD CAUCUS IN STONEHAM

 

Registered Democrats in Stoneham will be holding a caucus in the Auditorium of Stoneham Town Hall on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. to elect 13 Delegates and 3 Alternates to attend the 2013 Massachusetts Democratic Platform Convention.  Delegates will be divided equally between men and women in accordance with Democratic Party rules.   In order to either run as a delegate and/or to vote in the caucus, a person must be at least eighteen (18) years old and a registered Democrat in Stoneham as of December 31, 2012.  In addition, registration will be opened at 6:00 p.m. and will remain open until 6:45 p.m.

The caucus is open to all registered Democrats in Stoneham.  Candidates for Delegate and Alternate must consent to their nomination in writing and must be present at the caucus.  All candidates for Delegate and Alternate may make a two-minute statement and may distribute materials on their behalf.  All ballots will be written, secret, and recorded by the caucus teller.  Those not elected as a Delegate or Alternate, who meet the qualifications, may apply to be add-on Delegates in the following categories:  youth (35 and under), minority, and disabled. 

The 2013 Massachusetts Democratic Convention will be held on Saturday, June 1,2013 at the Tsongas Center Arena at UMass Lowell.  At that time, Democrats from across the state will gather for an issues convention and will hear from exciting future party leaders and to debate, vote and to ratify/adopt  a new platform.

Discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, disability, religion, ethnic identity, sexual orientation or economic status in the conduct of the caucus is strictly prohibited.  Challenges to the Delegate selection process must be filed with the Massachusetts Democratic Party, 56 Roland Street, Suite 203, Boston, MA  02129 within ten days after the caucus.

Starting this year, the Massachusetts Democratic Party will also hold a Youth Convention for high school organizers.
